About

About Me:  I’m in process. Together with my community of faith in Longview I’m seeking to grow in love for God and neighbor. I have the privilege of serving alongside the great people of Longview Community Church as a pastor and friend as we seek to believe, grow, and serve in the name of Christ. Prior to coming to Longview I completed an MDiv degree at Regent College in Vancouver, BC. My wife Julie and I have a beautiful son named James Mercer, born April 3 2012.

About The Blog:  This blog is a venue for us to discuss how our faith and life intersect. I started the blog as a way of staying connected with the congregation in Longview while I was stranded in Canada waiting for my visa to come through. What was supposed to take 8 weeks turned into 16 months. After arriving I continued the blog because I have found it to be a helpful discipline in my life. It keeps me reading, writing and thinking.

About The Picture:  The picture in the header is of the intersection that Longview Community Church is located at.  It captures the vision of this blog, which is to reflect on how the ministry of the church intersects with life and culture.  It also captures the vision of our church, which is to create a community of missional disciples.  LCC is an historic 90 year old church that is working to adapt to the needs of a post-Christian era.

  1. HI Phil: I just discovered your web site as I began to prepare a message for this Sunday’s service. My wife, the Pastor in our church here in Ontario, has a bad cold, so by default (?) I am preaching in her place. I do sense the Lord has directed me to the topic of Heaven, and your blog and web site have given me some food for thought!
Thanks for the info, insight and thoughts…it helps in the preperation to know what others in the Body are thinking and expressing!
    Doug
