Next Steps For James

We had a good cardio appointment at Doernbecher’s on Thursday. James has gained a bit of weight and his heart is still functioning well enough to wait a few more weeks for surgery. Dr. Kelly, our cardiologist, will be discussing James’ case with the surgical team next Friday and will recommend that he be scheduled for his surgery. James will then be put on the list and we will probably have the surgery within 5-6 weeks. Since James is not an “emergency” case he may get bumped further down the list. Please continue to pray with us that he will be scheduled soon, that he gains weight and continues to tolerate his high calorie feedings, and that his heart function remains steady.

We came across this helpful video clip that explains the surgery that James will undergo. The prospect of this complex surgery is a bit scary for us, but we are comforted by the fact that the success rates are very positive. Over 99% of kids survive the surgery these days.

Thanks for your prayers and support.
