James Back Home From OHSU

Thanks for the prayers and support regarding the most recent development with James. We were admitted to OHSU Thursday after a routine check up because James had failed to thrive. After one really good week of weight gain he gained nothing for two and a half weeks. We tried every possible way to get James more calories but he simply refused to eat as much as he needed. He has developed a feeding aversion due to a really bad reflux and a general fatigue due to his heart condition. We now have him on a feeding tube to help him get the calories he needs. So far it has been working really well. Though, it has been a learning curve for Julie and I. We feel like our house has turned into a nursing station with feeding pumps, syringes and all kinds of medications sitting around. James’ heart also continues to struggle. We now have him on extra meds to try and slow his heart rate. If the feeding tube works we will continue to help him get bigger for the next few weeks until his surgery. If his weight gain continues to struggle we will have to admit him sooner. In the meantime his smile prevails!
